CCLAS is really excited about some of the initiatives we have planned for 2011. This year we have new board members, new community partners and new goals that will help the shelter to enter a new and improved era.

But these goals are aggressive; and aggressive goals need aggressive funding. Your membership fees and your donations are used to improve the lives and welfare of Lakewood’s pet population. Since CCLAS is a citizens committee that strives for authenticity and transparency, we have included a few facts below about how we distribute our funds.

Donation for Medical Care

• For every animal adopted through the Lakewood Animal Shelter, CCLAS contributes $37.50 toward a $75 spay and neuter voucher. With almost 200 dogs and cats being adopted each year, our contribution has the potential to exceed almost $7500 annually.

• In addition, CCLAS continues to make improvements to our foster program. While many of our foster families bear the cost of pet supplies, CCLAS pays for all mama cats to be tested for FeLV/FIV. We are also working with our foster families to spay our mama cats once they are finished nursing their litters. When possible, we also contribute to spay and neuter costs for the kittens. In addition to these expenses, we seek out the necessary medical attention that our foster animals need, in order to ensure their adoptability. On average, CCLAS will spend more than $70 per animal to have it spayed, neutered and vaccinated while in foster care.

• We are pleased to announce that we continue to host monthly off-site adoption events. Some of our donation funds are used toward buying supplies for those events.

Our ‘continuous improvement’ initiatives for 2011 include:

• Purchasing flea medications like Advantage and Revolution for the cats and dogs at the shelter and in foster care.

• Diligently working with our community partners, like the Lakewood Animal Hospital and Cleveland Animal Protective League’s Low Cost Spay Neuter Clinic, to spay, neuter and vaccinate every unaltered healthy animal available for adoption at the Lakewood Animal Shelter.

• Expanding awareness of the Lakewood Animal Shelter with a targeted advertising campaign, thanks to support from Cleveland-based advertising agency, Brokaw.

Your monetary support makes it possible for us to help our Lakewood Animal Shelter remain competitive with other local shelters and rescue organizations. With your help, we can improve the quality of life for Lakewood’s adoptable animals, and increase their chance for a loving home.
